On September 17th, 2025, SUCCESS launched the student projects for Fall 2025. An introduction was given to all staff and students from each partner university, covering the evolution of the smart room projects and the collaboration between the universities involved.
Each staff member explained their project objectives, expected results, and required skills. The coordinator presented the chronograph, methodology, and the student assignment process. Each team consists of 3 students from 2 different universities, one supervisor per university, and one customer from MDU.
Participants joined from Vasteras, Turku, Castilla de La Mancha, Medellin, and Panama City — totalling 5 projects across 6 universities.
January 2026 · Project Completion
We are thrilled to announce the completion of our Fall 2025 student projects, bringing together students from 6 universities to solve real-world challenges using IoT, Robotics, and AI. Each team featured 3 members per university under co-supervision from partner institutions.

February 2–4, 2026 · Conference · Panama City
Six posters and one conference presentation related to SUCCESS were presented at the 3rd Workshop on Intelligent IoT Services and Applications 2026, held in Panama City from February 2–4, 2026.
Project coordinator Radu Dobrin presented SUCCESS — A Framework for Sustainable Coproduction and Collaboration in Education and Research, discussing recent experiences between Latin American HEIs and Malardalen University through the Smart Room collaborative IT hub.
Five student projects were presented as posters, representing remote collaborations between students from Panama, Colombia, and Montenegro:
An additional poster presented a bachelor thesis on Development of a System for Energy-Efficient Lighting Behaviors. Through these activities, SUCCESS makes an important contribution to its dissemination goals.
February 4, 2026 · Certificates · Panama City
On February 4, 2026, 17 students from Universidad Tecnologica de Panama (UTP) and Universidad de Panama (UP) received certificates from Malardalen University (MDU) for successfully completing the Distributed Software Development course, which ran from September 2025 to January 2026.
Students attended classes taught by MDU professors and collaborated with peers from UNIMED (Montenegro), UdeA, and Unicauca (Colombia). Certificates were presented in person by Professor Radu Dobrin, SUCCESS Project coordinator, during his visit to UTP for the IoT Workshop keynote.
The SUCCESS Project is funded by the European Union and supports capacity-building activities for Latin American universities through collaborative research and education initiatives.
